I’m Ariel Lynn Butters and I’m a freshman double major in Communication Studies and Classics from Raleigh, NC. I live in Ehringhaus on south campus right now, but I’m moving to Carrboro in June, and probably to sunny LA in a few years for graduate school, as I’m hoping to become a screenwriter. I am expecting to starve and wait tables while waiting for my big break to arrive. I’m taking this class because (obviously) I love to read and I thoroughly enjoy hearing various interpretations of classic authors’ works. My favorite books include A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Hamlet, The Grapes of Wrath and (the widely under-appreciated novel of Curtis Sittenfeld) Prep. During the school year, I work as a copywriter. Essentially I get paid to take someone’s crappy words and make them less crappy.
When I’m not reading or writing, I’m typically working with animals or traveling. I am a registered vet technician and I spent last summer working with cheetahs in Namibia. I have spent a significant amount of my life in southern Africa and northern Maine. I can also occasionally be found jumping out of or off of things; I am an experienced skydiver and a licensed stunt bungee jumper.
I plan on facebook friending every single one of you.
